Here are some of the events that are being planned for the Festival in October.

Launch of the Design Festival
The Festival is in discussion with Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas’s office about the launch of the festival at the Senedd building as in previous years, with a showcase of the best of Welsh Design The British Council have also been invited celebrate their recent ‘Cityscapers’ project at the launch.
Cardiff Web Scene – Ignite Cardiff #3
If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only had 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world, creatives, web enthusiasts and entrepreneurs have been putting together free Ignite events in response to this question and now Cardiff Web Scene together with Nocci are very excited to be holding the third Ignite Cardiff in the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the Cardiff Design Festival.
Join us for an evening of fun, fast and informal talks on anything from typefaces to how to survive a Zombie invasion.

Dalton Maag – Type Talks
Celebrated typographer Bruno Maag will be entertaining us with another of his inspirational talks on Typography. www.daltonmaag.com

Andrew Shoben of Greyworld has agreed to talk to us all about their past and present projects. An entertaining and inspirational speaker – and fantastic work.

May you live in interesting times
Discussions are underway with Bloc about mutual collaboration between the festival and ‘May you live in interesting times’, Festival of Creative Technology 2009 which will focus on the presentation of innovative work in and around Cardiff over a two-day period. Included will be a conference, new commissions, residencies, screenings, and artists’ projects in public sites across the city. Design Circle, Reflecting Wales 09
The call for entries for a second annual exhibition of innovative works in the built environment in Wales, Reflecting Wales, is planned to go out in June 2009, and submissions will be invited from architects, designers, artists, theorists and students whose work critically challenges or engages with the build environment in Wales. Life Form
3rd and 4th October 2009

The BioArchitecture Foundation presents Life Form: Presentations exploring biological architecture, holistic building systems and geomantic built environments followed by interactive workshops in constructing energetically harmonious landscapes and life-supporting architecture.
They are also currently running an open design competition for a piece of 3D fractal artwork to be integrated into the landscape of a self-build community village.

Other things
We’d love to have The best of Welsh Graduates show again and a portfolio clinic.
There are also rumblings of exciting events from Momentum, Wales at Home, the DBA, Creative and Cultural Skills, Design Wales, Melin Tregwynt, Eco Design Wales, Precedent and there’s talk of a Design Festival Pub Quiz – with one question posed in advance by each contestant (at least you’ll know one answer)

The website will shortly be temporarily replaced by a blog while Hoffi revamp it ready for showcase and awards submissions in June/ July. Many thanks to them

Design Tribe will be creating our blog and email campaign, as well as helping with general festival organisation.

It's taken nearly a month to recover from the awards night!

The visual highlight s were the revamped chair competition and the student vitra panton chair competition entries - photos to follow

There was some serious award bestowing too of course and some dancing on the tables! see awards section for awards results.

What a neat little lecture venue at technquest! Fighting talk from Blair Enns last night on why the client/designer relationship needs a total rethink. loved the accent and the medical analogies. he has a blog at http://www.winwithoutpitching.com/ and has all the answers - question is do you dare take the advice?

Some people are vying for the record of best 'attendee' of the festival, getting the most events on their scorecard. Last night saw Naked wales in the pub - fab to see a good crowd enjoying a few beers and scratching their heads over the design 'pub' quiz - a regular event for the festival in the future I reckon - hey naked wales, I forgot to put my name on my quiz card - is it too late?
